Jazz, a vibrant and ever-evolving musical tradition, emerged at the turn of the 20th century and became recognised as the great American music. With roots in rhythm and styles from Europe, Africa, and South America, jazz is an art that teaches creativity, improvisation, and a sophistocated understanding of musical forms.
This Summer, Tustin Music is offering a week-long summer camp led by two of our most seasoned jazz instructors, Simon Drew and Kevin Karagozian. Students will be led on a fascinating and interactive journey exploring the history of the jazz tradition, its most prominent artists, and an introduction to the key concepts that make music “jazz”.
Improvisation will be a key focus of this summer camp, encouraging students to be corageous and playful while they solo over beginner-level chord changes. Students will also be encouraged to participate in learning three key tunes of the jazz era that will challenge their technical abilities on their instruments as well as their creativity and musicality.
